There's magic in being seen by people who understand - it gives you permission to keep going. Self-expression sometimes requires other people. Becoming ourselves is a collective journey. — Alok Vaid-Menon
My name is Brooke, and I am an intern here at Alive! I am pursuing my master's in clinical mental health counseling at Bushnell University, with a projected graduation date at the end of 2024. During my internship, I hope to grow my knowledge of attachment styles, therapeutic modalities and approaches, with a focus on gender-affirming, accessible, and anti-oppressive care.
At my core, I am a humanist and advocate, and this translates to my approach where I center you, the client, and what you bring to session. As a therapist, advocacy and humanism include promoting a more equitable world and challenging the barriers we have built up within ourselves or that society has constructed that do not align with our values and authenticity.
Through my own experiences of significant loss, profound grief, and questioning my identity and purpose, I have developed a deeper level of understanding for others navigating similar expressions of transformation. My goal as a counselor is to support you in uncovering your strengths and reframing your challenges, big and small, as you move forward.
I believe that we are all doing the best we know how to do with the resources and support available to us. We each have a unique narrative and voice that need to be witnessed by others. My goal is to create an environment where you feel seen and heard and an atmosphere of understanding, connectedness, security, and empowerment.
I am interested in working with folx ranging from teens to adults, couples, families, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, and anyone in between.
