“I change myself, I change the world.” —Gloria Anzaldúa
We all have the potential to heal and become the person we want to be. Throughout our lives, we are influenced by the many interactions we have with others and our larger society. Some of these interactions are negative, and the impact they have on us can be profound and scaring, while others define us by making us resilient and strong. All these experiences make us unique, and our identity is the result of the different aspects of who we are.
I believe every person does the best they can with what they have available to them but sometimes what is available is not the best, and we are stuck with a coping mechanism that can harm us in the long run. When we change those aspects of ourselves that cause us harm, we are better equipped to deal with the external factors that elicited those behaviors in the first place. We all have the capacity to heal, but we cannot do it alone; we need others in our path to support us, guide us, and be with us.
I believe my job is to work with clients in exploring their past and present surroundings and how these influence their perception of self. By providing them with support and guidance, clients can make the changes they want, learn how to cope, and break down barriers they perceive as harmful.
I work from a trauma-informed and anti-oppression lens. I use psycho-education to empower people to take an active role in their healing process by collaborating with them at every step. I use elements of Liberation Psychology to connect individuals with their community, along with other modalities like Internal Family Systems, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Narrative Therapy to help clients explore themselves and change to whom they want to become.
I identify as Latina/Chicana cisgender female. My pronouns are: she/her/ella. I am a native Spanish speaker and can provide therapeutic services in Spanish. I am a native from Los Angeles, but Eugene has been my home for 15 years. I enjoy reading, watching movies with my family, hanging out with friends, cuddling with my little dogs, and camping on sunny days.
