Abbreviation Index

We know that looking for a clinician is hard. We also know, that when looking for a clinician, it’s not alway obvious what all the abbreviations behind someone’s name mean.

Here is a brief index of common clinician abbreviation:

CADC-R: Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (Registered). These clinicians have completed the requirements to get this certification, passed an exam, and completed a minimum number of supervision hours in alcohol and drug counseling. Some of these clinicians may be working towards higher certification in drug and alcohol counseling.

CCTS: Certified Clinical Trauma Specialist. These clinicians have completed the training and certification process to become a CCTS.

CSWA: Clinical Social Work Associate. These clinicians have graduated with a Masters in Social work and are working towards full licensure. These clinicians are supervised by licensed social workers and are registered with the Oregon Board of Licensed Social Workers.

LCPC (ID): Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (Idaho). These clinicians are licensed in the state of Idaho and are registered with the Idaho Licensing Board of Professional Counselors and Marriage and Family Therapists.

LCSW: Licensed Clinical Social Worker: These clinicians are licensed in the state of Oregon and are registered with the Oregon Board of Licensed Social Workers.

LPC/LPC (OR): Licensed Professional Counselor. These clinicians are licensed in the state of Oregon and are registered with the Oregon Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists.

Registered Associate: Licensed Professional Counselor Intern. These clinicians have graduated with a Masters in Mental Health Counseling/Clinician Mental Health Counseling/or related field. They are working towards full licensure. These clinicians are supervised by licensed clinicians and are registered with the Oregon Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists.

LMFT: Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. These clinicians are licensed in the state of Oregon and are registered with the Oregon Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists.

Registered Marriage and Family Therapy Associate: Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Intern. These clinicians have graduated with a Masters in Marriage and Family Counseling/or related field. They are working towards full licensure. These clinicians are supervised by licensed clinicians and are registered with the Oregon Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists.

LMHC (WA): Licensed Mental Health Counselor (Washington). These clinicians are licensed in the state of Washington and are registered with the Washington State Department of Health.

M.A./M.S./M.Ed./MSW.: Master of Arts/Master of Science/Master of Education/Master of Social Work. Clinicians have completed all requires to graduate from their respective Master’s programs. All clinicians at Alive Holistic Counseling carry this qualification.

NCC: National Certified Counselor. These clinicians have passed the national exam from the National Board of Certified Counselors.
